David Archuleta was born in Miami, Florida, to Jeff Archuleta and Lupe Marie, a salsa singer and dancer from Honduras. Archuleta has four siblings. Archuleta’s family moved to the Salt Lake Valley, to the city of Sandy, Utah, when Archuleta was six. He currently lives in Murray, Utah where he attended Murray High School Archuleta is a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Archuleta started singing at age six, inspired by a Les Misérables video. “That musical is what started all of this”, he said. He started performing publicly at age ten when he participated in the Utah Talent Competition singing “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton; he received a standing ovation and won the Child Division. Archuleta was inspired by watching both Tamyra Gray and Kelly Clarkson to “see what performing and really getting into a song was like” during the beginning weeks of the premiere season of American Idol. He later made his television debut, at eleven years old, singing “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” on The Jenny Jones Show show for future Latino stars alongside season one finalist A.J. Gil. Through A.J. Gil he was able to meet and sing for Gray who had sung the song on American Idol as well as Clarkson (that year’s winner) and Justin Guarini (the runner up).
Musical influences: Archuleta’s mother is from Honduras, and much of the music he listened to as a child was Latin-influenced including watching his mom sing at events with her sisters. She also “was big on dancing” according to Archuleta, and would “make” him dance to traditional music with his older sister. He also listened to jazz music, he said, from his father’s collection as well as gospel, pop, rock and “soulful music.” In a later interview, he revealed that his father was a jazz musician. Archuleta also said he enjoys Broadway musicals. On his American Idol “Fast Facts” page, Archuleta cited his musical influences as Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin and Bryan Adams. When he listed his top pop music artists, he cited Natasha Bedingfield, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bryan Adams, Kirk Franklin, and Robbie Williams. Like Elliott Yamin and another singer he admires, John Mayer, Archuleta tries to infuse his pop selections with a soulful vibe. In a Seventeen interview he cites Sara Bareilles as a clever singer-songwriter he looks up to.
Star Search: In 2003, at age twelve, Archuleta sang on several episodes of the television show Star Search. He ended up as the Junior Vocal Champion on Star Search 2. On one episode, he sang against then-11-year-old Alexandréa Lushington, who became a “top 20″ semi-finalist on American Idol alongside Archuleta. Around the second year of being on Star Search he started focusing on the lyrics, “I didn’t even pay attention to the lyrics when I was 12, 13″. Archuleta’s competing on Star Search led to appearances on The
Jenny Jones Show and CBS’ The Early Show, and meeting the finalists from American Idol’s first season, for whom he performed a spontaneous a cappella rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls, and received enthusiastic praise from Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson. The year after Star Search he found out he had partial vocal paralysis but declined risky surgery and has said he feels he is almost fully recovered. He limited his singing for specific occasions like Stadium of Fire, the Independence Day celebration at Brigham Young University Stadium. Archuleta made initial attempts at songwriting and arranging music after his Star Search experience and has written at least three songs. His first singles in 2002 included “Dream Sky High” and “Don’t Tell Me”.
American Idol: Overview - Archuleta won his ticket to the Hollywood final auditions at the San Diego tryouts - held at Qualcomm Stadium at the end of July 2007 - with a performance of John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change” with judge Randy Jackson spontaneously joining in to sing the background “waiting” in the song.) He was 16 during the Hollywood auditions (where his renditions of Bryan Adams’ “Heaven” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” were well-received by the judges) and attended school while a part of American Idol’s seventh season. His parents were there because he was a minor. Archuleta also took advantage of the decision to allow contestants to play musical instruments when he accompanied himself on piano for his performances of “Crazy”, “Another Day in Paradise“, and “Angels.” A Los Angeles Times article speculated that Archuleta avoided singing the first verse of “Imagine”: because “of his religion (Mormonism), he’s unlikely to espouse the song’s agnostic ideal . . . with the line about ‘no religion too.’” Archuleta did, however, sing the entire song on Good Things Utah when he was 13. During his first performance of “Imagine” on American Idol, when asked by judge Randy Jackson why he didn’t sing the first verse, Archuleta said the third verse was his favorite because it has “a great message.”
After his performance of “We Can Work It Out”, which judge Simon Cowell called “a mess”, Entertainment Tonight reported that Archuleta was feeling pressure from his father, Jeff Archuleta, who “reportedly yelled at” his son after a recording session the previous night. Jeff Archuleta, in an interview with Us Magazine, denied the claim. A May 2008 Associated Press article reported that Jeff Archuleta had his son add a lyric from the Sean Kingston song “Beautiful Girls” into a rendition of “Stand by Me” (from which “Beautiful Girls” samples its bass line), increasing the costs for licensing, and that this had resulted in Jeff Archuleta being banned from American Idol backstage rehearsals.[30] David defended his father calling him “a great guy” who keeps him grounded. During the Top 7 results show, the contestants were split into two groups. In one group was Syesha Mercado, Brooke White, and Kristy Lee Cook. In the other group was David Cook, Carly Smithson, and Jason Castro. Archuleta was the only one not sorted into a group. He was declared safe after the groups were formed, then was asked to choose the group he thought was safe. He refused, and sat down on the floor of the stage, much like Melinda Doolittle had done the previous season.
In the finale he sang “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, “In This Moment” and “Imagine”. Judge Simon Cowell declared that Archuleta won the evening and even David Cook, who ultimately won, thought Archuleta would win: “I have to concede it, the kid came out all three songs and nailed it”, said Cook. In the final tally, Archuleta received 44 percent of the votes. During the finale show, identical commercials featuring Archuleta and fellow finalist Cook mimicked the Tom Cruise scene from Risky Business where he dances in his underwear playing an air guitar; they were promoting the game franchise Guitar Hero.

“YANNI VOICES”, YANNI - the sound of extraordinarily beautiful music - CONCERT TICKETS NOW ON SALE!
January 16, 2009 by Claudia · Leave a Comment
Go back and listen again to Yanni’s melodies composed over an incomparable 30+ year career and it becomes clear—the man’s music was meant to be sung. Revered for his sweeping symphonic pieces, intimate keyboard airs and unforgettable musical themes, Yanni long resisted having vocalists reinterpret his music with lyrics—until now. His premiere Disney Pearl album, Yanni Voices, was over two years in the making and is without question Yanni’s most ambitious project yet.
Teaming up with GRAMMY and Academy Award-winning producer Ric Wake, Yanni took on a mentoring role for this project, discovering and producing four young singers—Nathan Pacheco, Ender Thomas, Leslie Mills and Chloe. Pairing their vocal talents with both his old and new compositions, Yanni encouraged the four singers to write lyrics for the melodies that moved them most. It proved a winning gamble.
On the CD, Yanni and Wake effortlessly wove a mainstream sensibility with modern rhythms, Mediterranean sensuality, Latin passion, and operatic flourishes. Add to that Yanni’s expansive arrangements and you have compositions that will appeal to a global audience . The singers then accelerated the energy beyond the composer’s wildest dreams. “I knew,” says Yanni, “if we could match the melodies with the right lyrics and voices, we would be adding powerful layers beyond just the instrumental music, giving a re-birth to these compositions…I believe that the human voice is the most powerful and expressive instrument known to man”
With careers stretching over decades, Yanni and Wake were in a good position to guide their four singers (the “kids,” as they call them) and to allocate the division of vocal labor. Given her rock background and powerful range, Chloe was perfect for songs like the sensual “Kill Me with Your Love” and “Change,” a song originally written for Yanni’s unforgettable performance at the Taj Mahal. “When I thought I wanted to do something more rhythmic, Chloe came into the picture,” says Yanni of his young protégé.
Conservatory-trained tenor Nathan Pacheco excels in classically influenced songs like “Adagio in C Minor,” “Tribute” (Yanni’s 1997 hit heard in every Olympics since it was recorded) and “Enchantment,” based on Yanni’s original composition from the Grammy Nominated 1993 album In My Time. Says Yanni of the latter track, “It was originally written for piano and then developed for orchestra. Now Nathan takes the song to a whole new level. It’s one of the best he does. In My Time is one of my all time favorite albums because of its simplicity and melodic strength.
Leslie Mills is gifted with what Yanni calls “the Mother Earth voice,” and it’s hard to argue with his appraisal. A skilled songwriter and a true poet once signed to Paul McCartney’s publishing company, Leslie’s gentle, almost fragile quality adds palpable intimacy to songs like “The Keeper” and “Before the Night Ends.”
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Venezuelan-born Ender Thomas is the team’s resident master of Latin fire, as heard on tracks like “Bajo el Cielo de Noviembre” and “Desire” (based on Yanni’s 1992 composition from another GRAMMY nominated album, “Dare to Dream“). Says Yanni, “Desire is very Mediterranean influenced: Moroccan, Spanish, Greek and Middle Eastern with a modern driving beat. Ender just exploded on that song.”
And just to mix things up, Yanni and Ric paired Ender and Chloe on a moving Spanish-English duet, “Until The Last Moment,” based on a 1993 Yanni classic first performed live at the Acropolis in Athens.
Video: Yanni Voices - Live in Concert
Since they launched the Voices project more than two years ago, life has taken on an ascetic quality for both Yanni and Wake. Hunkered down at “Camp Yanni” (as they refer to Yanni’s Florida studio complex) and huddled together with Nathan, Ender, Leslie and Chloe, the two continue to write and record all day and into the night. So far they have recorded more than 130 songs, including debut solo albums by all four singers. “We probably packed four or five years of work into two,” Yanni says. “If you focus that much on one subject, your mind accommodates you. You rise to a level not normally accessible to you.”
Why Ric Wake? Few other producers have had as much success turning young vocalists into stars. His track record includes developing and producing artists like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and
Cover of Tribute
Jennifer Lopez, in addition to his Oscar-winning production of the musical feature film, “Chicago.” But he and Yanni were friends long before they decided to join forces professionally.
“We were both at a time in our lives when we were trying to figure out what to do next musically,” Wake recalls. “Eventually after months of hanging out I said, hey, we should do music together and I told him the concept of ‘Voices.’ At that point I was immersed in his music and realized that Yanni is a genius, his musical themes are timeless; many consider him the Mozart of our time. I thought if we could put voices and lyrics to these powerful melodies we would be creating something magical that will touch the world.”
“He’s been a great influence,” Yanni says of Wake. “I’m relieved to have someone I can trust and bounce ideas off. So far we’ve pretty much never left the studio. I thought when I got tired I’ll take a break, but I never got tired. This is the best time in my life right now.”
That life has encompassed enough artistic achievement and popular success to span several careers. Born Yannis Chrysomalis in Kalamata, Greece, Yanni came to the United States as a teen to study psychology at the University of Minnesota. He had been a champion swimmer, breaking the Greek national freestyle record at age 14. But music remained his principal passion, and though he had no formal training, Yanni poured his energy into developing a music career. He performed with numerous Rock and Roll bands in the late 1980s, but eventually went out on his own to pursue an original path, writing and performing instrumental music that adhered to his guiding principle: music as a liquid medium that cannot be held, contained or cornered.
Throughout the late ‘80s and ‘90s, Yanni released a string of albums, all of which became global hits. They include Dare to Dream (1992), In My Time (1993), Niki Nana (1989), If I Could Tell You (2000) and his crowning achievement Live at The Acropolis, recorded live at the 2000-year-old Herod Atticus Theatre in Athens, captured by 14 cameras and assembled into one of the most popular PBS specials ever. He also gave spectacular live performances at signature locales like India’s Taj Mahal and Beijing’s Forbidden City.
With multiple world tours before millions, and more than 35 gold and platinum album awards to his credit, Yanni had finally earned a break. But he never grew comfortable with the downtime, which led to his partnership with Ric Wake and the Voices project. Add in the power of Disney, and Yanni is clearly set to soar again.
In a world so seemingly precarious, can music change lives anymore? Ask Yanni and he’ll tell you he still has plenty of faith in the power of art. “If I can play a small role in getting people together, introducing cultures to each other and show our common ground,” he muses, “I would find this to be most fulfilling.”
That sounds like the voice of reason—and with Yanni Voices, it’s also the sound of extraordinarily beautiful music. BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW!!

Little Big Town - 2009 TOUR - Tickets now available!
January 10, 2009 by Claudia · Leave a Comment
Little Big Town is an American country music vocal group. Founded in 1998, the group has comprised the same four members since its inception: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Roads Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet. The quartet’s musical style relies heavily on four-part vocal harmonies, with all four members alternating as lead singers. Westbrook and Sweet also play rhythm guitar. After a short-lived deal with the Mercury Nashville Records label which produced no singles or albums, Little Big Town released their self-titled debut on Monument Records in 2002. It produced two minor country chart singles before the group left the label. By 2005, the group had been signed to Equity Music Group, an independent record label owned by Clint Black. Their second album, The Road to Here, was released that year. Certified platinum in the U.S., it produced consecutive Top Ten singles on the country charts in “Boondocks” and “Bring It On Home”. A Place to Land is the title of their third album, released in 2007. This album’s first single, “I’m with the Band”, was a Top 40 hit on the country charts. Shortly after its release, the group was transferred to Capitol Records Nashville, which acquired the rights to A Place to Land and released “Fine Line” as its second single.
Little Big Town have charted eleven singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. This figure includes a Christmas single which was made available only as a download, and a live cover of “Life in a Northern Town” (along with Sugarland and Jake Owen) which charted in 2008 based on unsolicited airplay. In 1987, while attending Samford University in the state of Alabama, singers Kimberly Roads and Karen Fairchild met. Eventually, the two moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they reunited and began singing together. Jimi Westbrook, a friend of Fairchild’s husband, joined Roads and Fairchild in 1998. The three singers began performing as a trio, eventually rehearsing with Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney, both of whom would eventually become members of the country pop group Rascal Flatts. By 1999, Phillip Sweet was added as the fourth member of the group, which by then had chosen the name Little Big Town.
Little Big Town’s first record deal was with Mercury Nashville Records; however, no singles or albums were released on that label, due to creative disputes. By 2002, Little Big Town was signed to Monument Records. Their first album, also named Little Big Town, was released that year. It produced the singles “Don’t Waste My Time” and “Everything Changes”, which respectively peaked at #33 and #42 on the Billboard country charts. Westbrook’s father passed away in 2002, just after the group’s first album was released. Fairchild and Sweet both divorced shortly afterward, and the group was dropped from
Monument’s roster. The four members all took up day jobs to earn additional money, although they continued to tour as well. The Road to Here - In 2005, Little Big Town was signed to Equity Music Group, a label started and partially owned by country music singer Clint Black. Their third single was released on Equity in May of that year; entitled “Boondocks”, the song reached a peak of #9. “Boondocks” served as the first of four singles the group’s second album, The Road to Here, which was released in the United States on October 4, 2005. “Bring It On Home”, the second single from The Road to Here, became Little Big Town’s first Top 5 hit on the country charts in 2006. It was followed by “Good as Gone” and “A Little More You”, both of which entered Top 20. By the end of 2006, The Road to Here had been certified platinum for shipping one million copies in the United States.
A Place to Land - A Place to Land was the title of Little Big Town’s third studio album, released in the United States on November 6, 2007. Its lead-off single, “I’m with the Band”, peaked at #32 on the country charts. On April 23, 2008, Little Big Town announced it was leaving Equity for Capitol Nashville. Shortly afterward, they charted along with Sugarland and Jake Owen on a live cover of The Dream Academy’s “Life in a Northern Town”. This live recording, taken from Sugarland’s 2007 tour, reached #28 on the country charts based on unsolicited airplay. Later in 2008, Capitol issued “Fine Line” as the second single from A Place to Land, which was re-released in October 2008 with bonus tracks, including “Life in a Northern Town”.
