October 29, 2008 by Claudia · Leave a Comment

Thursday in OC… This Mischief Night, instead of attacking your neighbor’s trees with toilet paper, how about getting wrapped up in Christopher Lawrence, Cosmic Gate, and Torin at Heat, Giant’s new home in Orange County. With full scale Halloween décor in place and a thing you know as that badass Funktion-One sound system, you’ll be too spooked to think about causing any trouble elsewhere. Plus, we hear Mr. Lawrence will not only be bringing “Beyond the Limit,” the track he did with John 00 Fleming, but a bunch of other bad ass brand new trance tracks you won’t want to miss. Click here for the Discount List.

Friday in SD… Boo! Spin has got the most spiritual Halloween party in SD with Cosmic Gate and the perennially costumed Cowboy Mike. With their recent remix for Deadmau5, the Gate guys have proven their versatility within their own genre and their ability to trancify any outsiders in ways that will surprise you. If you haven’t seen SD’s own Cowboy Mike, you will want to hear the (very tall) DJ who is galvanizing the city’s new trance scene. Click here for the Discount List.

When he was last in town, Release Yourself Volume 7 was brand new. But now that it’s had time to sink in and Roger’s had a chance to break in those tracks and break out new ones, there’s no way to predict how crazy this night will be. AWSOME XYZ - A NEW LIMITED ADDITION CD, A ROAD TRIP AND???

October 23, 2008 by Claudia · Leave a Comment

XYZ originally comprised of Terry Ilous on vocals, Marc Diglio on guitars, Patt Fontaine on bass and Paul Monroe on drums. XYZ is a band that has taken it from the streets of Hollywood to the biggest stages in the world. During their four-year tenure as veterans of L.A.’s club wars, XYZ followed the familiar progression of recording and mailing demos to every ear they could catch. In early 1989 the band won the devotion of Enigma Records and earned their first accolades from Don Dokken, who was so taken with the band that he demanded to produce XYZ’s debut. They emerged from the studio with an auspicious debut, simply titled “XYZ.” XYZ immediately put their performing muscle to work on major national tours as the tour mates of TED NUGENT in 1989. The young band’s steadfast reputation spread and they were subsequently offered back-to-back tours with ALICE COOPER, FORIEGNER, and OZZY OSBOURNE. XYZ then graduated to their own headlining club tour, and continued to rewrite the XYZ’s of rock ‘n’ roll. Now, having won the admiration and dedication of Capitol Records, XYZ gets down to the matter of serious record-making once more. “Hungry” was produced by George Tutko, and the band toured the world in the early 1990’s and sold over 1. 2 millions CDs!

ABOUT THE NEW MUSIC AWARDS: The New Music Awards known as “New Music’s Biggest Night” brings the radio and music industry together for one night. Celebrating artists and bands as well record labels, and radio stations and its programmers. The New Music Awards is proud to be the first and only award show not weighted down with the politics and corruption of the corporate world, but an award show showing the true talent which exists in the music industry today.
ABOUT AVALON: In 1964, The Beatles had their first West Coast performance.  Born as the Hollywood Playhouse, the building opened as one of Los Angeles’ first and most lavish legitimate theatres on January 24, 1927 with a production of “Alias The Deacon,” starring 1920s matinee idol Burton Churchill. Many theatrical productions followed, including the West Coast premiere of Ibsen’s “An Enemy Of The People.”  The advent of radio brought many CBS Radio Network programs to its stage, including the infamous Fanny Brice with her “Baby Snooks” show and Lucille Ball’s “My Favorite Husband.” With the dawning of the ’40s came a new name and spirit. Now called the El Capitan Theatre, the building opened with “Ken Murray’s Blackouts,” a live variety/burlesque show which played 3,844 performances–a record that has remained unbroken since 1949.

In 1963, the building was again renamed, dubbed The Jerry Lewis Theatre to house the comedian’s weekly ABC-TV variety series. When the program failed, ABC raised a more classic title onto the marquee, The Hollywood Palace, and launched its hit “Hollywood Palace” series with a kaleidoscope of show business greats–from Judy Garland to Louis Armstrong. Through seven successful years three things remained constant: season premieres hosted by Bing Crosby, a weekly all-star line-up unrivaled by any television presentation before or since, and ratings that made Nielsen history.  The Hollywood Palace also continued to feature music concerts, among them The Beatles’ noted performance (over the years, each ex-Beatle would also take the stage as a solo artist). !” Though the “Hollywood Palace” series was canceled in 1970, the name and the theatre lived on as an ABC studio where variety shows were produced featuring Fred Astaire, Jimmy Durante and Pearl Bailey. Subsequently, Merv Griffin would settle in with his popular talk show.

Rebuilt as a multimedia facility, The Palace became the consummate concert venue and nightclub in town. As a five-night-a-week mega dance club featuring the largest light and sound system in Los Angeles, The Palace was the West Coast version of New York’s infamous Studio 54.  Prince, Madonna, The Rolling Stones and others regularly came to party at The Palace. (Olivia Newton John even had her wedding reception there.) Some bands, like The Rolling Stones, Prince, Tina Turner, and Oingo Boingo performed there just because it was The Palace.

Sunday, Oct 19 7:00p at El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles, CA

It has now been over a decade since Gaelic Storm’s career lifted off with their appearance as the rowdy steerage band in the blockbuster film Titanic. Since their big-screen debut 10 years ago, the band’s fan base continues to multiply with each new album, turning the one-time-pub-band into one of the premier touring acts in the Celtic/World music genre. Musically, Gaelic Storm’s compelling originals and fresh arrangements steeped in Celtic traditional melody combined with their unique blend of world rhythms continue to broaden the musical horizons of the Celtic music genre creating new standards for generations to come.
.Gaelic Storm recently released their 7th album What’s the Rumpus? with a stellar debut at #1 on the Billboard World Album Chart, #1 on the iTunes World Album Chart and #5 on the Billboard Internet Album Chart. Inspired by the music that drives their loyal fan base, What’s the Rumpus? is a wild party of an album, full of colorful characters and outrageous stories, flavored with Gaelic Storm’s signature acoustic sound that gets you dancing and never lets you go.
