MTV News Interview With Angela Gossow Posted Online - ARCH ENEMY Completes “Tyranny and Bloodshred” Tour;
ARCH ENEMY are hot off the heels of the “Tyranny and Bloodshred” tour, which also marked their most successful North American headlining trek yet. The tour also featured labelmates Dark Tranquillity, Divine Heresy and Firewind making for one of the best guitar-shredder packages of the year. This run also marked ARCH ENEMY’s second North American visit in support of their highly successful album, Rise Of The Tyrant. Since their last visit in October they have seen extensive touring action throughout Europe, Japan, SE Asia and Australia. Angela Gossow (vocals) recently sat down with MTV News’ Metal File and spoke about a number of issues concerning re-recordings of older tracks, a new DVD and how hectic her life has been.
Arch Enemy Revive Early LPs With A Twist; Carcass Aim For U.S. Tour; Plus Disturbed & More News That Rules, In Metal File - ‘We’re just really hungry right now,’ frontwoman Angela Gossow says of Arch Enemy’s plans.

By Chris Harris - Last fall, Michael Amott, guitarist for Swedish melodic death-metallers Arch Enemy, confirmed in an interview with Metal File that Carcass, the legendary British grindcore band he played in during the early ’90s, would be re-forming for a spate of live gigs. But while the band has booked a ton of festival appearances overseas, Carcass have yet to announce a single U.S. date.
The File spoke to Arch Enemy frontwoman Angela Gossow (and Ammott’s fiancee) last week, just before the band played the final date on the sold-out Tyranny and Bloodshred Tour, with support acts Dark Tranquillity, Divine Heresy and Firewind. Gossow told us that while nothing has been made official, “there is something in the works for the States.”
According to Gossow, Carcass have been approached about a possible U.S. headlining run, but the right offer hasn’t come to the table yet. “There’s obviously huge interest in a Carcass tour,” she said. “I’m sure you guys will get it, but nothing has been confirmed or anything.”
Gossow and Amott have been engaged “forever,” but she says they haven’t “found the time to get married yet.” If the tour does come to fruition, Gossow said her fiance’s life is going to get more hectic than it already is. The guitarist will be pulling double duty with both Arch Enemy and Carcass, because, at the moment, both bands have impossibly full plates.
Arch Enemy, who continue to tour in support of last year’s Rise of the Tyrant, have already started working on material for the follow-up, Gossow said. And just six months ago, they hit the studio to re-record some of the band’s earliest material.
“We started re-recording the old stuff because, for most people, Arch Enemy started to exist with [2001's] Wages of Sin, because the band got big after I joined,” she explained. “Obviously, the band released three albums before that (1996’s Black Earth, 1998’s Stigmata and 1999’s Burning Bridges), and we’ve been trying on and off to play old songs live. Most of the time, we just get this stare from the crowd, and people think it’s a new song or a demo. A lot of young kids haven’t heard these tracks, so we just figured we’d re-record them, give them new exposure, and it’s going to give us the chance to play them live.
“These songs are 10 years old at this point, and it’s going to sound killer,” she continued. “Razor-sharp sound — and we’ll up the production. The songs will have a little bit of a twist to them; they’re going to sound new, even though they’re old.”
Arch Enemy plan to issue the re-recorded cuts in early 2009, after the release of their forthcoming live DVD, which was shot in Japan in March at a sold-out gig before an audience of 2,500. The footage was captured with 10 cameras, and the DVD will feature tons of backstage footage and interviews, Gossow said.
“We had the Fuji [Pacific] crew doing this, because the boss of Fuji is a huge fan,” she said, with a laugh. “Basically, they did it for free, and brought in a crane. You’d never know this guy would like our band, but there are a lot of metal fans out there, and you would never know it, because they look so official, and they’re wearing suits. But we’re like a metal factory, at the moment. It’s so great, because we actually have the motivation and we’re just really hungry right now.”
The rest of the week’s metal news:
The growing beef between Disturbed and the Dillinger Escape Plan got even more interesting this week. It all started when DEP guitarist Ben Weinman claimed in an interview that he’d watched Disturbed practice all their onstage moves during a sound check. Guitarist Dan Donegan fired back, claiming DEP had no idea what it takes to put on as massive a show as Disturbed put on, dismissing the remarks as jealousy. Dillinger fired back on June 2 in a post on their MySpace page, saying Donegan has “little-peen complex” and slamming the band for “sucking.” Disturbed frontman David Draiman later said in a radio interview that he respects Dillinger, but that he doesn’t “understand what the hell they think they saw with us. …This is what the big boys do who play stadium shows — they want to worry about how the lights look that they spend so much money on.” …
DragonForce have dubbed their forthcoming LP, which hits stores August 26, Ultra Beatdown. The disc will feature eight tracks, including “The Fire Still Burns,” “Heartbreak Armageddon” and “The Warrior Inside.” …
What has drummer David Silveria been up to since taking a “hiatus” from Korn? Starting a new band, that’s what. A MySpace page for Satellite Syndrome popped up earlier this week — and has since been pulled down — which stated the band should be releasing its debut album early next year. The group is currently in the studio, recording material for that effort. …
French progressive-extreme metallers Gojira will issue The Way of All Flesh on October 14. The LP is in the process of being tracked in Los Angeles with producer and ex-Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader. …
Eerik Purdon has parted ways with Omnium Gatherum. It isn’t the first time the bassist has split, and the band still isn’t sure why he bolted. “We ain’t got a clue really what the hell happened here,” the band said in a statement. Omnium are currently on the hunt for a replacement. The band’s forthcoming album, The Redshift, will feature 11 tracks, including “Chameleon Skin,” “Shapes and Shades,” and “Song for December.” …
Walls of Jericho have set The American Dream as the title of their new album, which lands in stores this summer. In other album news, Motörhead will release their next record, Motörize, before the end of the year. …
Arsis have parted ways with drummer Darren Cesca, and they’ve already replaced him with Alex Tomlin. Cesca’s departure, the band claimed, was due to “differences in personalities and an overall difference in direction.”

INTRONAUT Announces New Album Title; Studio Report
June 16, 2008 by Claudia · Leave a Comment
Unparalleled intensity, psychedelic brutality, captivating hooks and just the right dose of unpredictability have defined Southern California’s INTRONAUT since their inception in 2004. But, they’ll be taking thinking man’s metal in a new direction with their Century Media debut, Prehistoricisms. The band is currently tracking drums at Opera Studios in North Hollywood and recording guitars and bass at Castle Oaks Studios in Calabasas. Vocals are being completed at Clearlake Audio in North Hollywood, and the whole process is being engineered by Josh Newell (Jane’s Addiction). Expect a release later this year.
“I can’t even begin to express how excited we are about this record,” said frontman and guitarist Sacha Dunable. “It’s definitely our most densely packed body of work yet. In addition to the standard INTRONAUT angle of attack, we have some surprises including an awesome guest solo from Negativa/Gorguts guitarist Steeve Hurdle, as well as some truly jaw-dropping moments of Indian/metal fusion courtesy of Joe and Dave. Stoked.”
The group has been critics’ darlings, receiving numerous accolades from such major publications as Decibel, Metal Maniacs, Outburn and Revolver, among a slew of others. Decibel even listed Prehistoricisms as “One of the most anticipated releases of 2008.” In October 2007, INTRONAUT released The Challenger EP, but this will be the band’s first set of recordings with new guitarist and longtime friend Dave Timnick, with whom they have only recorded one Pink Floyd cover (“Arnold Layne”) for a Syd Barrett tribute disc up until now.

ABORTED Streams Entire New Album and Posts New Videos Online
June 16, 2008 by Claudia · 3 Comments
European death metal butchers, ABORTED, have refined and re-defined the tools of their trade on their sixth full-length, Strychnine.213, to murder the listener with unimaginably gruesome, shockingly diverse brutality. This savage assault is set for a June 24th release, just as the band embarks on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour. Be sure to check out www.myspace.com/summerslaughtertour for their complete itinerary. Sven De Caluwe (vocals) further comments: “The last paperwork and arrangements are being made here for our departure to the U.S. in a few days, all I can say is that the band is extremely excited to get out there and crush everything together with all these killer bands on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour. This is not only one of the coolest tours with very diverse bands, it’s also a great opportunity for us to party with our good friends for over a month.
To all the fans out there: bring your helmets because it’s fuckin’ hammer time! See you all soon.” Beginning today, fans can stream Strychnine.213 in its entirety on the group’s official MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/abortedmetal. The band have also posted live footage, along with a short backstage interview, filmed at Neurotic Death Fest in Tilburg (NL) online. So, if you are ready for some intense live devastation, follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5T3SlxK5Gk. Also, if you want to check out all the craziness that takes place in the studio with ABORTED, just click on the link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eNOucVkU0w Combining the band’s undeniable live energy with a powerhouse production from Eric Rachel (The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, God Forbid), and a much needed, diversified approach to the overly edited, sterile sounding death metal records of today, ABORTED succeed in retaining their vicious roots while evolving in terms of melody, musical virtuosity and vigor. Strychnine.213 reinforces the notion that ABORTED have doubtlessly developed into extreme metal’s most promising new breed.

“FLASHBACK,” FEATURING THE MYSTIC ORCHESTRA, RE-ENVISIONS ROCK CONCERT LEGENDS’ GREATEST MUSIC TO CREATE “THE CLASSIC ROCK EXPERIENCE”
June 10, 2008 by Claudia · 9 Comments
(Artwork by Ed Unitsky) - SAVANNAH, GA – 06/03/2008 - John Lennon gave the marching orders long ago. Imagine. For his part, veteran concert promoter Rick Bowen imagined a rock concert like no other: Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd playing together on one stage. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and other legends performing with the benefit of today’s state-of-the-art lighting and sound. The elusive tribal feeling, unique to classic rock concerts, recreated for a new generation.
Imagine no more. “Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience,” featuring the Mystic Orchestra, is about to storm the concert arenas of America – kicking off August 27 at the Civic Center in Mobile, Alabama (see below for complete itinerary). With its elite team of musicians, technical wizards and design specialists, “Flashback –– the Classic Rock Experience,” delivers anew the hit music of the all-time greatest artists: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and more, presented in a mind-boggling multi-media spectacle one must see to believe.
“The intention is to present the music like it’s never been presented before,” says Bowen, founder of “Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience,” and its creative director. “I wanted to do it even better than done originally. We have the world’s greatest players, who studied every move the classic bands ever made.”
With music director Frank Gilcken at the helm, the Mystic Orchestra features 14 brilliant rock musicians and singers, as well as an 11-piece string-and-horn section, together elevating classic rock to new heights. For the Mystic Orchestra core band, Gilcken recruited fellow guitarists Phil Hilborne and Jamie Humphries (veterans of the hit Queen retrospective “We Will Rock You” and the Australian Pink Floyd Show, respectively), keyboardist Brian Chatton (Phil Collins and Meatloaf), keyboard/woodwind player David Boruff (Madonna, Chicago) and Australian drummer Adam Troughear.
Rocking the mics, Shaun Williamson (lead singer, King Karma, Spanish vocalist Jose Manzano, Katrina Chester (star of the off-Broadway smash “Love, Janis”), Elizabeth Eagan and star lead vocalist Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night, back to sing that band’s greatest hits and more.
The nearly three-hour show reworks indelible songs of the most highly regarded era in rock: the Doors’ “Light My Fire” and “Riders on the Storm.” Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” and “Mercedes Benz.” Jimi Hendrix masterpieces like “Purple Haze” and “Foxy Lady.” Other rock classics include Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water,” Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild,” “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes, Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May,” as well as Three Dog Night’s “One” and “Joy to the World,” sung by Chuck Negron.
The second half of the show offers something never before attempted in the rock ‘n’ roll universe: Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd playing together. All their greatest songs are featured, including Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” “Kashmir” and “Stairway to Heaven,” as well as Pink Floyd’s “Money,” “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Comfortably Numb” and “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” This is a carefully crafted meeting of the titans - a loving vision of what might have been.
Behind the scenes, Bowen assembled a world-class production team to mount “Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience.” They include promotions manager and founder of Rainbow Ticketmasters, Lou Dickstein; lighting designers Bryan Hartley and Phil Ealy; art designer Ed Unitsky; and sound mixer Seth Goldman. Collectively, these experts have worked with the top acts in rock ‘‘n’’ roll: Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, the Doors, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Elton John, Van Halen and David Bowie to name just a few.
Great as the bands were in the ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, they were handicapped by primitive light and sound. For “Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience,” Bowen and his team have no such problems. Six truckloads of intelligent LED lighting, lasers, pyrotechnics, an overhead helium-filled zeppelin with two screens and five additional towering hi-def video screens are all backed up by an EAW Quad 225,000-watt surround sound system.
Bowen is in a unique position to oversee “Flashback – the Classic Rock Experience.” A veteran producer/promoter of at least 1,500 concerts, Bowen has seen and worked with such immortals as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Three Dog Night, and Rod Stewart, to name a few. But he sees this project as the culmination of a life’s work.
Says Bowen, “These legends represent the best rock and pop music ever created and, turning back the hands of time, with an average ticket price under $40.00.” Adding, “If we do our job right, this re-creation will be a night to remember, a concert event and experience for multiple generations, as we tour the nation.”
